TDF is a black porcelain ashtray made through slip casting.
The object serves as a communicative medium critiquing years of repeated personal and social behaviors against the environment and Italian territory. From both a functional and anti-functional perspective, the ashtray has two main characteristics related to its shape and material.
The first suggests its use: it invites smokers to extinguish their cigarettes in the central crater and leave them around its edge. This gesture reduces the environmentally destructive behavior of discarding or burying waste in public spaces to an intimate scale. Similarly, the material (thanks to its porosity) reacts to use by becoming polluted like the environment and deteriorating over time if neglected.
